Mr Green n asked the Prime Minister, upon notice -

What is the explanation for the appointment of a clerk in the Governor-General's Office at an additional cost of £500, as shown in Division No. 12 of the Estimates?

Mr Lyons - It was found that the work of the Governor-General's Office had increased considerably, and that the organization did not provide for any relief for the Military and Official Secretary in the event of his absence. After investigation of the matter by the Public Service Board it was decided to make provision for the services of a clerk to assist the Military and Official Secretary, and relieve him during his absence.
