Mr Street t. - On the 18th November, the honorable member for Kalgoorlie (Mr. Green) asked the following questions, upon notice: -

1.   What ship made the last survey of the Kimberley coast st Western Australia between Cope Levique King Sound, and the mouth -el the Ord River?

2.   On what -Sate was the sUrvey made and what coastal mileage was covered by the survey?

3.   What vessel was previously engaged on this work, amd on what date ?

4.   What is the total mileage of the coast lino between the points mentioned yet to be accurately surveyed?

5.   Where is the survey ship Moresby at pre- . sent employed? If not engaged on the area mentioned above, when is .it likely that she will be diverted to the uncharted part of this dangerous coast?

I am now in a position to inform the honorable member as follows : -

1.   The last survey was by H.M.S. Fantome, in the Buccaneer Archipelago area.

2.   Between 1909 and 1913. No figures are available as to the coastal mileage covered.

3.   The chars indicate that there has been work in this area between 1818 and 1822; between 1838 and 1840; by H.M.S. Rambler in 1888 and 1889; and by H.M.S. Penguin in 1890-91.

4.   The areas surveyed arc: - Buccaneer Archipelago, the area from Maret Islands to Jones Island and the Holothuria Banks, and the urea between Cape Levique and the mouth of the Ord River. No figures arc available as to the area yet to be accurately surveyed.

5.   H.M.A.S. Moresby is at present surveying in Spencer Gulf South Australia. While the need for surveying many sections of the Australian coast is recognized, it cannot he stated at present when a survey of the area mentioned is likely to be undertaken.
