Mr Pollard d asked the Prime Minister, upon notice -

1.   In the replies to a series of questions asked by the honorable member for Newcastle (Mr. Watkins) relating to the cost of ministerial trips overseas since March, 193(>, why was the cost of the trip of the then Minister for Trade and Customs (Mr. White) to New Zealand, in March, 1938, not given?

2.   On what date did that honorable member refund to the Treasury portion of expenses drawn by him on account of overseas trips?

3.   Have any other Ministers refunded to the Treasury any portion of the allowances or expenses drawn by them?

Mr Lyons - The answers to the honorable member's questions are as follows : -

1.   The Honorable T. W. White, M.P., made only one visit to New Zealand, being absent from Australia from the 10th December, 1937, to the 10th January, 1938. Information in regard thereto was included in the reply furnished on the 19th October, 1938, to a question by the honorable member for Newcastle.

2.   The 7th September, 1930, £20 (New Guinea and Papua visit); the 4th February, 1938, £40 (New Zealand visit); the 10th October, 1038, £S5 (United Kingdom visit).

3.   Yes. The preparation of a complete list showing what refunds have been made by Ministers from time to time would involve a very considerable amount of research work which 1 do not wish to authorize needlessly.
