Mr BEASLEY (West Sydney) . - That does not answer the point raised by the honorable member for Hunter (Mr. James). We were told that the object of this bill was to elevate an Assistant Minister to full cabinet rank. I understand that at present Assistant Ministers receive between £300 and £400 less than Ministers with full cabinet rank. I cannot see, therefore, why the additional expenditure involved in the passage of this bill should be more than that amount. If there is a reason it should be made clear to us.
