Mr STEWART (Parramatta) . - I am sorry that the Minister has insisted on retaining to the GovernorGeneral the right to fix the salaries of the officers of the commission. It has been urged that the committee should insist on the salary of the general manager being fixed by the commission. I agree with those who maintain that no authority is better qualified than is the commission to estimate the importance of the position of general manager, and, surely, in that case, no one is better qualified than the commission to estimate the value of his services. I shall vote against the sub-clause.
