Mr GULLETT - I shall be pleased to give consideration to this matter, but I doubt whether the Government would entertain such a proposal. Already the import duty is 7d. a gallon, and the excise 4d., which affords a protection of 3d. a gallon in respect of petrol produced within the Commonwealth. I might mention that the Tariff Board has recommended that a protective duty of1½d. would be ample in respect of refining carried out in Australia.
