Mr FENTON (MaribyrnongPostm aster) (General) . - In reply to the point raised by the honorable member for West Sydney (Mr. Beasley), I may say that the Government was faced with the position of having to dispense with the services of the 700 employees mentioned who were redundant officers or to employ them at a reduced salary. All married men receive £182 perannum. The officers whose salaries have been reduced will, of course, be entitled to promotion as vacancies occur, when they will receive a higher salary.
