Mr FENTON - On the 10th March, the honorable member for Bass (Mr. Guy) asked a question without notice regarding the linking of Tasmania with the mainland by telephone'. At the time I promised to make inquiries, and now desire to inform the honorable member that, subject to parliamentary approval of the recommendation of the Public Works Committee, this work will be proceeded with as early as the financial position permits. The department realizes the importance of the service and is anxious that it should be established as early as practicable.
