Mr GULLETT - It has frequently been stated that, if necessary, the Government will not hesitate to ration the imports of tobacco to an extent sufficient to ensure the consumption of the saleable portion of this year's Australian tobacco crop. Any action in that direction would be by means of a proclamation. Obviously, there would be some loss of duty, inasmuch as the total impost on imported leaf is less than that on Australian leaf.
