Mr BRUCE (FLINDERS, VICTORIA) (Assistant Treasurer) . - The honorable member for West Sydney (Mr. Beasley) has quite misunderstood both the object of this clause and the object of the amendment. It surely is apparent to him that the words " and any person," which it is now proposed to insert in the clause, will applyonly to those persons who do the acts which are made an offence by the provision of the clause. No attempt is being made to interfere with freedom of speech or the liberty of the subject, in the way suggested by the honorable member. All that is desired is that those who contravene the provisions of the clause shall be liable to punishment.
