Mr LYONS - The answers to the honorable member's questions are as follow : - 1 and 2. A notification appears in the current issue of the Commonwealth Gazette inviting applications for the position of liaison officer, External Affairs, London. The reduction in the classification of this position was not made for the purpose of advantaging any individual. It affects the permanent salary assigned to the position, but not the total remuneration of the position, as will be seen from the advertisement in the Gazette. Its object is to bring the position into line with the senior External Affairs posi tion in Australia.

3.   The qualifications of redundant officers will receive the fullest consideration when a selection is being made for the position.
