Mr LYONS - The honorable member seems to overlook the fact that when a statement is made as to the proportion of an allocation absorbed by a State, the balance of the money provided by the Commonwealth is probably in process of being spent. In regard tothe Post Office, the Commonwealth and the State are both committed to the full amount, and the works involved are proceeding. There can be no actual unexpended balance.

Mr Rosevear - Why not expedite the expenditure ?

Mr LYONS - I do not know that any advantage would be gained by doing that, and throwing men out of employment earlier than would otherwise happen.
