Mr FROST (FRANKLIN, TASMANIA) - When was the embargo on fruit lifted to allow Canadian apples to enter Australia? I understand that under the Canadian trade agreement apples are not on the free list, and that the embargo applies to Canadian fruit as well as to the fruits of other countries,

Mr PARKER MOLONEY (HUME, NEW SOUTH WALES) - Apples were not included in the trade agreement with Canada.

Mr Frost - Because of the danger of introducing disease?

Mr PARKER MOLONEY (HUME, NEW SOUTH WALES) - Yes. There was a lengthy discussion on the subject, and because of the danger of introducing disease with apples, they were omitted from the trade agreement altogether. I shall ascertain for the honorable member the exact position with regard to the embargo.
