Mr J FRANCIS (MORETON, QUEENSLAND) asked the Minister representing the PostmasterGeneral, upon notice - 1.Whether it is a fact that the Deputy Post- mastor-General of Tasmania has, under regulations, authority to spend up to only £5?

2.   If so. (a)does the Minister not think such amount totally inadequate for one holding the position of Deputy Postmaster; and (b) will the Minister give instruction's to have the amount raised to an adequate amount?

Sir LITTLETON GROOM - The answers to the honorable member's questions are as follow: -

1.   The £5 limitation applies only to expenditure under the Public Works Regulations, in connexion with the maintenance of buildings, which work is under the control of the Works and Railways Department. 2.In view of the fact that the Works and Railways Department has a representative at Hobart, the amount is considered adequate.
