Mr MAKIN (Hindmarsh) (2:59 AM) . - I regret that the Treasurer has given unfavorable consideration to the amendment. For every case that has occurred like the one to which he referred, there will be dozens in which the employee who leaves the Department will have to accept a position disadvantageous to him.

Mr Brennan - The Government can examine each case, and deal with it on its merits.

Mr MAKIN - Quite so. If the Treasurer desires to do justice to his Department he can easily include in the Bill a clause which will prevent abuses. Consideration should be given to those who, through fore-knowledge of retrenchment, accepted service outside the Department prior to the passage of this Bill. I hope the Minister will reconsider his decision.
