Mr ANSTEY (BOURKE, VICTORIA) - Is there not, in the Taxation Department, a record of the pastoral companies and individuals who paid £690,000 of land taxation in respect of leaseholds from the Crown during the three years 1914-1916, or are those records also lost ?

Dr EARLE PAGE - All the records are in the Department, but there are about 17,000 payers of land taxation from freehold and leasehold which are mixed together, and. the Commissioner assures me that the whole of the files will have to be searched in order to get the information that is desired. The figures which the honorable member for Bourke supplied last week were a surpise, not only to me, but also to all the officials of the Taxation Department,as nobody can have such information.
