Sir JOSEPH COOK (PARRAMATTA, NEW SOUTH WALES) (Treasurer) . (By leave).- A difficulty has arisen in the House in consequence of the much-to-be-regretted absence of Mr. Speaker. Usually in the temporary absence of Mr. Speaker the Chairman of Committees takes the chair; but no provision is made for any relief to Mr. Deputy Speaker when he is required to occupy the chair for a long period, as at present. I therefore ask the House to agree to this motion, which I hope will be accepted as formal -

That during the unavoidable absence of Mr. Speaker, Mr. Deputy Speaker be authorized to call upon any of the Temporary Chairmen of Committees to temporarily relieve him in the chair.

Question resolved in the affirmative.
