Mr FENTON - Is it not true that the Commonwealth Government have power to prevent the export of wheat on account of the contemplated shortage of that article in Australia? If so, cannot the same rule be applied to the export of coal until Australian requirements are met?

Mr HUGHES - I - can only answer the honorable member to the best of my knowledge and belief. The Customs Act does not enable the Government to place such an embargo, upon the export of coal as would amount to a prohibition.
