Mr ATKINSON (Wilmot) .- I sympathize with the plea which has been made by the honorable member for Robertson (Mr. Fleming) on behalf of mail contractors in the drought-stricken areas of New South Wales, and I think his statement will apply to men so employed in all the States. I wish specially to bring under the notice of the PostmasterGeneral (Mr. Wise) the position of those in charge of allowance post-offices, and to inquire whether the honorable gentleman has yet taken action to afford them some relief. They are among the worst paid people in the community, and I hope that speedy action will be taken to improve their position. They are performing onerous duties, aud although, like all other sections, they feel the pinch of. the high cost of living, they seem to be the only people who are not receiving any consideration.
