Dr MALONEY (MELBOURNE, VICTORIA) .- I feel a peculiar pleasure in following a young member, because of the fact that I speak with some thirty years' parliamentary experience behind me. When I first entered Parliament I was worth £10,000, though possibly, if I died tomorrow, I should be found, with the aid of insurance money, worth ten thousand shillings. My first election cost me over £900 - we had a' glorious time! I remember that somebody sent up a barrel of beer, and, knowing very little about politics, I thought that everybody ought to have a glass. However, an assistant of my opponent pointed out to me that I was breaking the law in allowing the barrel of beer to be in the lane beside the booth, and when I went round I found it- .
