Mr WISE (GIPPSLAND, VICTORIA) (Postmaster-General) - The answers to the honorable member's questions are as follow:^

1.   Yes.

2.   I am in favour of all officers of the Department being treated on the same principle, and it is for that purpose, I understand, the application referred to is being made.

3.   It is thought necessary to review the award in question, which is held by the Acting Public Service Commissioner to be based on erroneous data, and which creates serious anomalies as against the remainder of the Public Service. ,

4.   I have no power to give such a direction, and the fact that the Arbitration (Public Service) Act makes provision for applications for variation indicates that such applications are not at variance with the spirit and letter of arbitration and conciliation.
