The director of policy at the Menzies Research Centre, says the Australian government needs to fight back against protectionism and find trade deals to counter President Trump's isolationist stance.

Andrew Bragg put his concerns into a book 'Fit for Purpose' which will be launched by the Prime Minister tomorrow in Canberra.

He's been speaking with the ABC's senior business correspondent Peter Ryan.
