It's estimated that around one-third of the food produced in the world is wasted every year.

That works out to be around 1.3 billion tonnes of food.

One of the world's best chefs, Massimo Bottura from Italy, is on a mission to reduce food waste and feed the needy.

His documentary about the global issue will begin screening in Australia next week.
