UN Syria envoy offers to lead fighters from Aleppo -

View in ParlViewView other Segments

In a proposal borne of desperation, the United Nations' envoy to Syria has offered to personally escort Islamist fighters out of the besieged city of Aleppo.

Staffan de Mistura has appealed to former al-Nusra Front fighters to leave Aleppo to, as he said, halt the bombardment of the city by Russian and Syrian forces.

The UN envoy has predicted that, if the violence doesn't stop, Aleppo could become the next Rwanda or Srebrenica.

Barbara Miller reports.
