An Australian is among the dead in the Kenyan terror attack in a shopping centre. At least 68 have died. A major assault by Kenyan soldiers is a shopping mall in Nairobi. The country 's Defence Force claims most of the hostages have been freed. The rescue operation remains delicate.

This is the moment when terror struck into the heart of Kenya's Heights site in. Gunfire, echoing around the aisles of the main supermarket. People crouching, running, hiding, as it became clear this was not an armed robbery but something much worse. The shoppers left, cowering in a store room, to survive.I can see through. It is a terrorist.Kenya had been bracing itself for a terror attack. It had always hoped it would be contained. But it was not. It was huge. The military surrounded the terrorist group inside the shopping centre with hundreds of soldiers and special forces. They are being advised by Britain, the US and Israel. When the security forces and gauged the gunmen, survive estate is to safety. Among them, this woman.I rang up my mother. I said, I love you. I might die. I wanted to say, I love you. She told me not to panic, to start praying. Everything was going to be fine. Did they fail like this?Yes. That is exactly what it was. -- fire. I saw a cross me, dead bodies. Asians, Africans. People are bleeding and you can do anything about it. I looked up if I could see colleagues. Luckily, I saw a few. A child was injured with a bad injury. And the kid next to him was hit.It is becoming increasingly tense. The crowd is urging the military to attack. The military responded with tear gas, causing chaos.

For the families missing, these are awful times. There are hoping that their loved ones will escape. For many, including the country 's president, the news is already absolute. There is no hope. Many other Australians were caught up in the massacre. Sarah Williamson from Melbourne was one of hundreds who incredibly survived the ordeal.

We have some breaking news: There has been a major development in the investigation into the murder of a good Samaritan. A 38-year-old Thai national will face a Melbourne court this afternoon after being extradited. Mitchell was repeatedly stabbed and kicked outside a Brunswick convenience store after breaking up a fight in 2009. Freeman wanted by police fled Australia after the murder. Hundreds of police are involved in raids targeting street gangs across Sydney's south-west this morning. 13 arrests have been made. Operations are ongoing. Our correspondent has more. This is a major operation. What is happening where you are?At about 6am, a dozen heavily armed tactical operations unit officers shattered the quiet morning. They force into the front doors of two homes behind me and ordered the occupants out one by one. They searched the homes. There are hothouses behind. They brought in police divers to set a game as well. There are about to take away four jet skis and a boat they think are stolen. One man was arrested. He is among 13 who has been arrested in about 20 simultaneous raids across Sydney this morning. The other properties targeted included a car dealership in Liverpool and a real estate agency. These raids are targeting an Assyrian crime syndicates, a street gang, that has been linked to drugs and guns. Police have seized drugs in other locations. They say this operation is ongoing. Police will provide more details later this afternoon. Thank you. A 39-year-old Queensland man has died in a crash at Park Ridge in Logan overnight. Police say the car he was travelling in crashed into a power pole at around 7:30pm. He died at the scene. A 21-year-old man was taken to hospital with nonlifethreatening injuries. The charges are an enormous shock to Rolf Harris's family and supporters, some of whom will attend court with him.

A trial begins in Brisbane today for Jayant Patel, accused of causing grievous bodily harm to a patient. Our correspondent has more. What has happened so far this morning?Jayant Patel has arrived in court. They are going through the gruelling process of selecting a jury. The former doctor is accused of one count of causing grievous bodily harm to a patient. It involves a 2004 incident when he was performing colon surgery. The trial is set down for three weeks. It might be several hours before it undergoes -- it is properly undertaken. This process will be longer and more complicated than normal because of the amount of publicity surrounding Bundaberg Base Hospital and alleged events that occurred there in 2004 and 2005. The judge said he wants to make certain that every juror is in partial. The arrival of asylum seeker boat will not be constantly broadcast as part of the Coalition's plan to crack down on people smugglers. Our correspondent has more. How will the public find out when they are right? We are going to be told but not as often. Under the labour government, whenever and that was picked up, Customs sent out a press release, saying how many people were onboard, whether people would be processed. The new Immigration Minister says they will want that back to a weekly briefing. The first one will come this afternoon. He wants to start people smugglers of information. The gate has prompted the christmas island administration to reconsider his position. -- admin. We are at one in a water taxi service. They rang -- ran a shipping news for the people smugglers. We just want to stop the boat.I will find it absolute remarkable there will be a policy in place to prevent 2000 Australians who live on christmas island talking about it. I am not aware of such policy. The entire board of the NBN Co has offered to resign. What can you tell us about that? This has come from Fairfax Media. The company itself is not commenting on the reports. The new Communications Minister Malcolm Turnbull is critical of the NBN board, especially the CEO, who is already announced his retirement. These the resignations will have to be signed off the new Cabinet. Lastly, a change in tune, there has been an embarrassing typo for the Coalition. Last man plays have been put up around Parliament for the new ministers. This will along to a senator. It caught our attention.

It is pretty embarrassing. Embarrassing indeed.

you've just joined us, these are
the top stories. An Australian is among 68 people killed in the Nairobi terror attack. Kenyan officials say all hostages have been rescued from the shopping centre where militants launched the brutal attack 30 hours ago. Sydney police have arrested at least 13 people in co-ordinated raids across the city's south-west. And Prime Minister Tony Abbott says his Government will release weekly updates on asylum boat arrivals in a bid to starve people smugglers of information. An Australian is among the dead in the Kenyan terror attack at a shopping centre in which at least 68 people are now known to have dn killed -- been killed. A major assault by Kenyan soldiers is now ongoing at the mall in Nairobi. The country's Defence Force claims most of the hostages have been freed, but the operation is ongoing. Tonight - Kenyan security forces moved in hoping to end the more than a day and a half stand-off. Outside the mall, there was a large explosion as choppers hovered overhead. Some 36 hours after the terror began, the terrorists were still inside the mall holed up with 30 hostages in a tense stand-off with authorities. The group of 10- 15 militants were deep inside the mall's basement, inside a stock supermarket with plenty of resources to hold their ground. The toll is already enormous. At least 68 people dead and 175 wounded. Aamong the injured - at least five American citizens. One of them a child. The highly-co-ordinated attack began at noon yesterday. Two groups of gunmen dressed in black, storming the doors and throwing grenades and opening fire with automatic helps. This dramatic video captures the chaos. Gunshots heard as panicked shoppers ran through the aisles. People stepped over dead bodies as they crawled for cover, hiding in stores and air shafts. The many wounded overwhelmed the local hospital. We tried escaping and they threw a grenade. There were very many people injured.By late afternoon, Kenya's government were calling the act an act of terrorism. Al Shabaab reportedly claiming responsibility, striking back at Kenya for sending troops in to neighbouring Somalia to fight. Outside the mall, witnesses report the gunmen were there on a mission - to kill non- Muslims. We had to rescue only the Muslims. He said, if you're a Muslim, stand up and go.As day turned to night, special forces moved in and Kenya's president vowed to fight back.We have overcome terrorist attacks before. In fact, we have fought courageously and defeated them within and outside our borders. We will defeat them again. 13 people have been arrested in raids across Sydney's south-west. It's part of an ongoing police operation targeting street gangs. Kelly Fedor is outside one of the scenes of the raids. She joins us live. What is the latest, Kelly? Well, just in the last few minutes, police have towed away three jet skis and a speed boat. They're all suspected of being stolen. Now, that wraps up this raid here which began at 6:00 this morning. Neighbours say they heard tactical officers yelling out, Police, police, police" but they forced in the doors behind me and ordered the occupants out. They spent the hours afterwards searching the homes. Also, a dam was searched by police divers out the back and some hot houses were raided. Police also took away brown bags of evidence. Now, this was one of 22 simultaneous raids across Sydney's south-west. It has been 18 months in the planning and has targeted a crime gang that's been linked to drugs and guns. Now, as you said, 13 people were arrested. They are expected to be charged and police will brief the media a bit later and give us some details on when they will face court.Alright, and we will stay across that developing situation throughout the day. Thank you. A 38-year-old Thai national will face a Melbourne court later today over the murder of good samaritan Luke Mitchell after being extradited. 29-year-old Mitchell was repeatedly stabbed and kicked outside a Brunswick convenience store after breaking up a fight in 2009. Three men wanted by police fled Australia soon after the murder. To Canberra now where controversy surrounds the Coalition Government's decision to only release weekly updates about asylum seeker boat arrivals. Let's go live to Nine's Lauren Gainoli for the details. Can you take us through the Coalition's plan?Well, the new Immigration Minister wants to starve the people smugglers of information as part of Operation Sovereign Borders. And starting from today, there are only going to be weekly briefings on boat arrivals. When Labor was in power, Customs would send out a press release saying how many were onboard, where the vessel was picked up and where the people would be processed. That's not the case now. And John Stanhope, the administrator on Christmas Island, and says he doesn't see how the people living on Christmas Island can be expected not to say anything. Take a listen to him and the Immigration Minister. We're not running the water taxi service that the previous government was running. Where they basically ran shipping news for the people smugglers that's not our job. It's our job to stop the boats and tell people what we're doing to stop the boats.I would find it absolutely remarkable that there could be a policy in place that would seek to prevent 2,000 Australians who live on Christmas Island from talking about what happens here. And the other big news out of Canberra today - the entire board of the NBN Co has offered to resign?Yes, this is being reported by Fairfax Media. And the new Communications Minister, Malcolm Turnbull, when he was the shadow, he was very critical of the NBN, especially the CEO who has already announced his retirement. The company itself, they're not saying anything. And any of the new resignations will have to be signed off by the new Cabinet. So we'll keep watching that. And lastly, the new Government, the MPs are setting up their new offices here at Parliament House and there's been a pretty embarrassing typo. He's the minister assisting the Prime Minister for Women, but if you look closely at the new glass plate, it says assisting the Prime Minister for woman - not women. And it is having a bit of a laugh about this and some would argue that it is appropriate given that Julie Bishop is the only female in the Cabinet. It is an easy portfolio if it is only one woman! Thank you for the update. A bit of glitz and glamour now and all of the stars are out for the Emmys in LA. As usual, Heidi Klum has stunned in a glitzy gown. While TV presenter Kelly Osbourne also went for red tones and a flowing floor-length dress. While Sofia Vergara showed off her curves in the same hue. The array of colours continued with Alyson Hannigan in purple courture, and young up and comer, Sarah Hyland in green. And the 65th Primetime Emmy Awards is taking place as we go to air right now. Denham Hitchcock is across all of the excitement of the event in Los Angeles. What have we missed? What's happened so far?Well... Whenever the shows begin, especially when it comes down to the host, it's the opening monologue and me, I'm a little nervous for them. Neil Patrick is doing it, the second time out for him. Unless it is Billy Crystal, you can never be guaranteed it will be good. He did something unusual. These are the old past hosts, Jimmy Kimmel there and a bunch of others, about five of them in all came out. So that was a little unusual. But the opening monologue, it wasn't a song and dance, it was sort of this as well! It was mildly interesting. The best of it was Tina Fey and Amy Poehler! Have a listen.

Take your pants off!Take your pants off.And twerk it!Yeah.Work that twerk.I come to award shows for the twerking! No, stop!Twerk it.I'm not twerking. I'm not going to do that. That would be degrading!Yeah, it might be degrading but we would be de-grate- ful! Tina Fey never disappoints. The other questions are - who have been some of the other winners? And which of the shows are tipped to take the most awards?Let's start with 'The Big Bang Theory' who are up for eight tomorrow nations. Jim Parsons just picked up his 3rd Best Actor in a Comedy Series. He's been nominated five times and this is his third. The drama category is the other category that people watch out for. A lot of the shows you're watching on the Internet or on Foxtel. 'Breaking Bad', 'Game of Thrones', 'Mad Men', 'Homeland' and 'House of Cards'. That's on Netflix. That's the first time an Internet show has taken on the heavyweights of TV. And the other thing to mention is Cory Monteith - the star of 'Glee' who died of a drug overdose earlier this year. There's an individual tribute to him that went to air about five or ten minutes ago. A bit of controversy over that. A lot of criticism because there's only five people getting these things, people like Larry Hagman from 'Dallas' haven't been included and people are saying perhaps the kid shouldn't have jumped the queue, given the circumstances. But the show continues and there will be more to come.We look forward to seeing how it unfolds. Well, one new reality TV show isn't likely to pick up awards. It's skausing controversy in the US before it has been screened. From the country that brought us the Kardashian comes the 'Preachers Of La' - revealing a somewhat surprising glimpse in to the life styles and extravagant wealth of pastors and bishops in a city where image is everything. The City of Angels ain't exactly the bible belt, so the preachers here aren't exactly from central casting. Like so many others chasing the Hollywood dream - they have star power.P Diddy and Jay Z shouldn't be the only ones driving Ferraris. You see my bling, you see my bent Lee, you see my glory but you don't know the story. That's the idea behind the new show. 'Preachers Of La'.Already, the title sounds like a stretch, because LA is about something over than God for most people.Right, right, lost souls! LA is where all of the lost angels are!Reality TV has already brought us the drama and decadence of the 'Real Housewives'. Taught us the meaning of GDL on 'Jersey Shore'. And showed us it is possible to be famous just for being famous - provided your last name is Kardashian. So why not a reality show about religious leaders? Men of power and, in some cases, great wealth. Think of it as lifestyles of the rich and spiritual! You're part of the family of God.The show is generating controversy even before the first episode has aired. Some church groups denouncing it based on the trailer - even starting an online petition against it. They're not the sort you would expect to find at an old-fashioned revival. There's the bishop - who used to be a gang banger.I'm on my way there, but just in case they don't respect the lord in me, I'm also taking the law with me, so I'm taking Mr Glock. Now, saving gang bangers is a big part of the ministry. That stkwrees us Christ died for my since. And the bishop, whose entourage, is as big as anything from 'Entourage'.If you want my ministry, you want what I bring. There's a tattooed pastor who is a former professional skate border, and a pastor of a megachurch whose Sunday morning routine... Includes a wellness ritual before he steps out on to the pulpit. Bishop Noel Jones - his flock at the church is one of the biggest in LA County. What is it that you're hoping people will get out of this?I'm hoping that people will understand that even the people you put on pedestals, have to deal with the same problems you have to deal with. That they're human? That they're human. One of his frailities is a weakness for fast cars.It generates 600 horses. And the show suggests he's a bit of a ladies man.Of course, women throw themselves at you in this business. When you get to my age you think - why can't I have some fun. I like to go fast in my cars. I like it. It's a part of being successful. He took me out for a quick spin! Emphasis on the word "quick". It's like the Batmobile! Some of the other preachers on the show preach that wealth can be a sign of God's favour. The Bible says that I wish above all things that you would prosper and be in health. I believe that.In fact, the idea of preacherly oppulence becomes a bit of an issue in the first episode of the show. When God anointed you, you didn't have an entourage. The preachers on the show are big personalities with lots of flash.Preachers are very entertaining people. They're not shrinking violets, that's for sure. # I'm so glad that God still hears # A sinner's prayer. # At the end of the day, we're all just human beings and flesh and blood. Even with our titles and owl the praises that we have and accolades that we have, we're all just highly-decorated dirt. So, why not a reality show tradition? There you go, could be time for a career change! Well, a tweet by US President Barack Obama has made a little girl very famous. It all started when the 5-year-old had to explain why she didn't turn up to kindergarten one day. It was the tweet that went out this last week from the White House, the President towering over the little visitor. 5-year-old Alannah. Her mother - a wounded warrior still recovering. Her dad couldn't believe what happened when she saw the President. She jumped in to his arms, threw her arms around his neck. He gave her a hug and a kills and they were then maybe 50 feet away. I have no idea what they said. While he doesn't know what they said, he knows what the President wrote to the kindergarten teacher. "Please excuse her from school, she was with me."My daughter, she may not understand what's going on now, but in ten years, it will Hitler. She says before he gave her the note, he also gave her some advice. -- it will hit her. She says before he gave the note, he gave advice. He said show it to the teacher. That's Tyler Sullivan there from Minnesota. The President pulling out a sharpy. He said, "Do you want me to write an excuse note?" And he said, "Mr Ahmed, please excuse Tyler, he was with me, Barack Obama, the President."Right there alongside the trophy which has been framed. President Obama is not the first to share executive privilege with the little one, George Bush helping this little girl, who was 12 at the time. She had written her own note, her own excuse saying, "I had a scheduled appointment with the President." President Bush signed his name saying, "This is true." Add one more little girl beaming in the blue dress scoring a rare presidential pardon. That is almost as powerful as a note from Ken Sutcliffe, who is here with the sport, next.I don't think that anyone would believe me if I sent a note saying that Johnny couldn't come in to school. They would probably realise it was a fix. Hawthorn is in recovery mode in the lead-up to this weekend's AFL Grand Final. The battle to be fit ahead of the Grand Final preliminarys. Well, Grand Final week has finally arrived, but you would hardly have known it at Hawthorn this morning. The stars going through a casual recovery. Luke Hodge tasked with getting the coffees. Yesterday, Alastair Clarkson was casting an eye over the VFL Grand Final in search for a replacement for the injured Brendan Whitecross. Meanwhile, the Hawks might have been trying to play down last year's Grand Final as motivation, but now an admission that that defeat still burns deep. There's no doubt that all of the guys still have some residue from the game deep down inside. Certainly, nothing has been said externally, or not to each other in that respect. But yeah, no doubt that there's premnants of that there. The nervous wait is almost over for a pair of Talks. The Match Review Panel are often lenient at this time of year. The Dockers made their first Grand Final in 19 years as a football club. The players have been quick to play down any effects the hype will have this week. It's obviously what we play football for. It's the ultimate hard work and sweat and tears that have gone in to getting to this position. So we have to make the most of it and go in and give the best. The Dockers will have the final training session in Perth on Tuesday, and the Hawks will have the final training session in front of a big crowd here on Thursday. Knights halfback Tyrone Roberts isn't expected to miss the match against the Roosters despite flying to to Newcastle with a knee brace. The Wallabies are on their way to South Africa for the rugby championship match against the Springboks. Benn Robinson says he's looking to re-establish himself in the team after being dropped earlier in the year. Australia has won just one match in the championship so far and will head to Argentina to face the Pumas after Sunday's match in Cape Town. Just five games in to the English Premier League season and Sunderland has already sacked their manager, Paola Di Canio. Sunderland are at the bottom of the league. Man City is two points off the top following an epic 4-1 win in the Manchester Derby. Bitter rivals, City and United, head-to-head for the first time this season. And it was the boys in blue getting first bragging rights. City struck again before the break making it two. The hosts not letting a little thing like half time slow them down. Wayne Rooney pulled one back with curling free kick, but it did little against the four goals already conceded. A dream-first Derby for the coach. I'm disappointed that we didn't perform because there was no reason. We played very well mid-week. There was no reason for us not to perform. Spurs sit alongside Arsenal, but left it late against Cardiff. Fantastic goal.A 93rd minute back heel was a cheeky way to the win. Arsenal had a 3-1 win over Stoke. We won in Marseilles. We won in Sunderland. We won today. Overall, it was a positive week. Just a few years after losing most of his fortune to fraud, Sweden's Henrik Stenson is now set for life.
