TONY JONES: Top white house aide Karl Rove says he will resign at the end of the month.

Often referred to as Bush's brain, Mr Rove is widely regarded as the architect of George W Bush's
presidential election wins in 2000 and 2004.

His career has been clouded by some controversial claims, most recently the allegation that he
illegally leaked the identity of covert CIA employee Valerie Plame in an attempt to silence critics
of the war in Iraq. However, a subsequent investigation cleared him of any wrong-doing. The Wall
Street Journal is reporting that Mr Rove will stand down at the end of August to spend more time
with his family.
