Authorities monitor volcanic activity off Tonga

Scientists and government officials have reached the scene of an underwater volcano erupting off
the coast of Tonga. The volcano has sent steam and ash exploding into the sky, and experts are now
waiting until the eruption dies down to see if the volcano creates a new island.

The volcano sent steam and ash exploding into the sky, triggering warns the area's unsafe for
aircraft and shipping.

Experts are waiting until the eruption dies down to see if the volcano creates a new island. It's
triggered several earth tremors, although they haven't caused a tsunami or any major damage on
land.
