Passengers from a boat intercepted off the north coast of Western Australia have been taken to the
detention centre on Christmas Island.

LEIGH SALES, PRESENTER: A boatload of suspected illegal arrivals intercepted off the North Coast of
the Western Australia earlier this week has arrived at the detention centre on Christmas Island.
The 12 passengers and two Indonesian crew arrived on shore just before midday today. Their boat was
intercepted by the Navy near the Ashmore Island Monday.

Nine are held in Christmas Island's detention centre, and three juveniles kept under superannuation
elsewhere on the island. The Immigration Minister, Chris Evans, say authorities don't know yet if
any of the group are seeking asylum.
