TONY JONES, PRESENTER: Thousands of Thai protesters took control of the national television station
and several government buildings today, calling for Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej to step down.

The People's Alliance for Democracy, a disparate group of anti-government activists, said Prime
Minister Samak is a front man for exiled, former Prime Minister Taksin Shinawat.

For his part Mr Samak gave the protesters an ultimatum to leave the buildings they had occupied
saying "They want bloodshed in the country and they want the military to come out and stage a coup
again."
