Transcript

TONY JONES, PRESENTER: Rick Santorum has quit the race for the Republican nomination for the US
president.

The right-wing candidate was expected to suffer a humiliating defeat in his home state of
Pennsylvania.

RICK SANTORUM, FORMER PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE: We made a decision to get into this race at our
kitchen table, against all the odds, and we made a decision over the weekend that while this
presidential race for us is over for me and we will suspend our campaign effective today, we are
not done fighting.

TONY JONES: His three-year-old daughter's chronic ill-health was also cited as a factor in the
decision.

Mr Santorum's pull-out clears the way for frontrunner Mitt Romney to challenge president Barack
Obama in November's election.
