Doubt cast over ASX-Singapore merger -

View in ParlViewView other Segments

ALI MOORE: A proposal to merge Australia's stock exchange with Singapore's is likely to be knocked
back.

The Foreign Investment Review Board today told the Singapore Exchange that the Federal Treasurer
Wayne Swan is unlikely to agree to the merger.

The Treasurer backed up the board's announcement with a statement saying he doubts a merger would
be in the national interest.

But Mr Swan also says he's willing to hear further arguments for the takeover before making a final
decision.

Parliament will have the last word on any merger.
