Chinese rescue workers are struggling with an unstable lake formed in the aftermath of heavy
flooding in Gansu province.

LEIGH SALES, PRESENTER: Heavy rains associated with a typhoon are threatening efforts by rescue
workers to find more survivors of the weekend's mudslides.

One of their biggest concerns is an unstable lake formed by mud and rubble.

Excavators and explosives were used to clear the blockage that created the lake.

More than 1,100 people are now confirmed dead, with more than 600 others missing.

One person was discovered in a flooded hotel, but hopes of finding many more survivors are becoming
increasingly remote.
