Broadcast: 09/12/2009

Reporter: Tony Jones

Four of the country's best known charities and not-for-profits have banded together to buy the
remaining 678 ABC Learning centres.

Transcript

TONY JONES, PRESENTER: The collapsed childcare operator ABC Learning is getting a new start. Four
of the country's best known charities and not-for-profits have banded together to buy the remaining
678 centres. With the help of a $15 million loan from the Federal Government, the deal is expected
to be completed early next year.

ROBIN CRAWFORD, GOODSTART: I was quite surprised to find that Australia's not really all that good
on early childhood care, and this opportunity, combined with this government's commitment to that
sector, I think is a fabulous opportunity to rewrite the map and produce stunningly great childcare
outcomes for our children.

TONY JONES: The new consortium has promised to secure the jobs of all its centre's workers and it
has no plans to increase or decrease childcare fees.
