LEIGH SALES, PRESENTER: Meanwhile, it's been a weekend of close calls for Australian troops in
Afghanistan.

Combined Afghan and Australian patrols have been involved in 10 separate violent incidents over the
weekend, most involving improvised explosive devices.

Four Australian soldiers and three Afghans were wounded and in the latest incident yesterday, a
soldier and an interpreter were injured by a roadside bomb.

Local commanders say the upsurge in violence is due to increased patrolling.
