LEIGH SALES, PRESENTER: Australian Federal Police have stepped up their inquiries into claims an
Indonesian man now living in Sydney is a war criminal.

They'll now conduct a full investigation into the allegations.

Ghee Campos is accused by the family of an 11-year-old East Timorese boy of beating the boy to
death in august 1979.

The boy's family now lives in Australia.

FAMILY MEMBER: I want him to rot in hell.

LEIGH SALES: The Immigration Department says it conducted a thorough background check on Mr Campos
before he was granted a visa for world youth Day.

But Channel 7 has tonight revealed East Timorese court documents showing Mr Campos was tried for
torture, leading to death, in September 1979.

That trial took place just weeks after the 11-year-old boy died.
