Registration processes and support for overseas trained doctors
Final

CHAIR (Mr Georganas) —Good morning. I now declare open this public hearing with representatives from government and non-government organisations. This public hearing aims to explore the registration processes and support for overseas trained doctors. Overseas trained doctors make up a significant part of Australia’s medical workforce and, importantly, a substantial part of Australia’s rural and remote health workforce. This inquiry aims to explore the registration processes and support available for those overseas trained doctors, also known as international medical graduates. This inquiry also aims to explore ways to remove impediments and promote pathways for overseas trained doctors to achieve full Australian qualification, particularly in regional areas, without lowering the necessary standards required by colleges and regulatory bodies. I thank everyone for making time to speak with the committee today. This public hearing is the first of the committee’s public hearings into this issue.
