VOTES AND PROCEEDINGS

HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.
THURSDAY, 8TH AUGUST, 1901.
1. The House met pursuant to adjournment.-Mr. Speaker took the Chair, and read Prayers.
2. DEATHI OF EMBuER (THE HON. W.. H. GnooM).-Mr. Speaker, addressing the House, said "It is with very deep regret that I have to announce to the House the death of the Honorable William Henry Groom, Member for the Darling Downs Division, in the State of Queensland." Mr. Barton thereupon moved, by leave, That this House desires to record its profound regret at the
loss which the Commonwealth suffers in the death of the Senior Member of the House, the Honorable W. H. Groom, and expresses its sincere condolence with his widow and the members of his family in their bereavement. And other honorable Members having supported the motion-Question-put and resolved in the affirmative. Mr. Barton moved, That Mr. Speaker be requested to convey the foregoing resolution to Mrs. Groom. Question-put and resolved in the affirmative.
3. ADJOURNMENT, AND TEMPORARY ALTERATION OF SESSIONAL ORDERS.-Mr. Barton moved, by leave, That the House, at its rising, adjourn until to-morrow at half-past ten o'clock a.m., and that Government Business take precedence of all other business to-morrow. Debate ensued. Question-put and resolved in the affirmative. Mr. Barton moved, That the House do now adjourn. Question-put and resolved in the affirmative.
And then the House, at forty-five minutes past two o'clock p.m., adjourned until to-morrow at half-past ten o'clock a.m.
