THURSDAY, 11TH JULY, 1901.
1. The House met pursuant to adjournment.-Mr. Speaker took the Chair, and read Prayers. 2. PETITION.-Mr. Piesse presented a Petition from certain Tasmanian citizens of the Australian Common-wealth, praying that the House would take immediate steps to suppress and prevent the operations of the institution commonly called "Tattersall's," and to insure that the Post-office of the Com-
monwealth shall not be degraded into being a vehicle for facilitating gambling. Petition received.
3. LEAVE OF ABSENCE TO MEMBER (MR. FOWLER).-Mr. Watson moved, pursuant to notice, That leave of absence for one fortnight be granted to the honorable Member for Perth (Mr. Fowler) on the ground of ill-health. Question-put and resolved in the affirmative. 4. EXCISE ON BEER BILL.-Mr. Kingston moved, pursuant to notice, That leave be given to bring in a
Bill relating to Excise on Beer. Question-put and resolved in the affirmative. Ordered-That Mr. Kingston do prepare and bring in the Bill. 5. CUSTOMS BILL.-The Order of the Day for the further consideration of this Bill in Committee of the
whole House having been read-Mr. Speaker left the Chair, and the House resolved itself into a Committee of the Whole. Mr. Speaker resumed the Chair; Mr. Chanter reported that the Committee had made progress in the Bill, and that he was directed to ask, That the Committee may have leave to sit again. Resolved-That the House will, on Tuesday next, again resolve itself into the said Committee.6. QUonRU OF STANDING COMMITTEES REDUCED.-Mr. Barton moved, by leave, That the Orders of the House fixing the quorum of the Standing Orders Committee, the Library Committee, the House Committee, and the Printing Committee, respectively, be amended, and that in future three be the quorum of each of such Committees. Question-put and resolved in the affirmative.

7. MESSAGE FROM THE SENATE.-CONSOLIDATED REVENUE BILL (NO. 3).-Mr. Speaker announced the-receipt of the following Message from the Senate:-Mn. SPEAKER, jlMessage No. 9.
The Senate returns to the House of Representatives the Bill intituled "An Act to grant and apply out of the Consolidated Revenue Fund the sum of One million ten thousand seven hundred and tl~rty-two pounds to the service of the year ending the thirtieth day of June One thousand nine hundred and two," to which it has agreed without amendment.
