VOTES AND PROCEEDINGS
OF THE
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.
WEDNESDAY, 26TH JUNE, 1901.
1. The House met pursuant to adjournment.-Mr. Speaker took the Chair, and read Prayers.
2. PUBLIC SERVICE BILL.-The Order of the Day for the further consideration of this Bill in Committee of the whole House having been read-Mr. Speaker left the Chair, and the House resolved itself into a Committee of the Whole. Mr. Speaker resumed the Chair; Mr. Chanter reported that the Committee had made progress in
the Bill, and that he was directed to move, That the Committee may have leave to sit again. Resolved-That the House will, to-morrow, again resolve itself into the said Committee.
3. DISCHARGE OF ORDER OF THE DAY.-The following Order of the Day was read and, on motion of Mr. Barton, discharged :-Acquisition of Property for Public Purposes Bill-Second reading. Ordered-That the said Bill be withdrawn.
4. MESSAGE FROM THE SENATE.-STATE LAWS AND RECORDS RECOGNITION BILL.-AMr. Speaker an-nounced the receipt of the following Message from the Senate:-MR. SPEAKER,
The Senate has passed a Bill intituled "An Act. to provide jor the recognition throughout the Commonwealth of the Laws, the Public Acts and Records, and the Judicial Proceedings of the States," to which it desires the concurrence of the House of Representatives. R. C. BAKER,

5. STATE LAWS'AND RECORDS RECOGNITION BILL.- r. Barton moved, That the Bill transmitted by the foregoing Message, intituled "An Act to provide for the recognition throughoit the Commonwealth of the Laws, the Public Acts and Records, and the Judicial Proceedings of the States," be now read a first time. Question-put and resolved in the aftirmative.-Bill read a first time,' ordered to be printed, and
that the second reading be made an Order of the Day for Wednesday next.
6. MESSAGE FROM His EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL.-ASSENT TO ACT.-The following Message from His Excellency the Governor-General was presented by Mr. Barton, and the same was read by Mr. Speaker:-HOPETOUN,
Governor-General. Mlessage No. 8.
The Governor-General informs the House of Representatives that he has, on this day, at Government House, Melbourne, given the Royal Assent to the undermentioned Act of the present Session, presented to him by the Honorable the Speaker of the House of Representatives, viz. :-" An Act to grant and apply out of the Consolidated Revenue Fund the sum of Four hundred
and ninety-one thousand eight hundred and eighty-two pounds to the service of the period ending the thirtieth day of June One thousand nine hundred and one."

8. ADJOURNMENT.-Mr. Barton moved, That the House do now adjourn. Question-put and resolved in the affirmative.
And then the House, at half-past ten o'clock p.m., adjourned until to-morrow at half-past two o'clock p.m.
