THURSDAY, 13TH JUNE, 1901.
1. The House met pursuant to adjournment.-Mr. Speaker took the Chair.
2. PETITION.-Mr. Piesse presented a Petition from certain Tasmanian citizens of the Australian Commonwealth, praying that the House would take immediate steps to ensure that the Post Office of the Commonwealth shall not be used for facilitating the operations of such gambling institutions as " Tattersall's" in Tasmania. Ordered to lie on the Table.
3. COMMInTTEE OF ELECTIONS AND QUALIFICATIONS-PETITION OF W. E. ADCOCK v. E. SOLOMON.--Mr. Speaker presented a Petition which he had received from William Eddrup Adcock, of Derby, in the State of Western Australia, against the return of Elias Solomon as Member for Fremantle, in the said State. Mr. Barton moved, That the said Petition be referred to the Committee of Elections and Qualifica-
tions for inquiry and report. Debate ensued. Question-put and resolved in the affirmative.
4. COMMITTEE OF ELECTIONS AND QUALIFICATIONS-POWER TO SEND FOR PERSONS, &C., AND TO SIT
DURING ADJOURNMENT OF THE HOUSE.-Mr. Barton moved, by leave, That the Committee of Elections and Qualifications have power to send for persons, papers, and records, to examine witnesses, and to sit during any adjournment of the House; three to be the quorum. Question-put and resolved in the affirmative.
5. OPENING THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE HOUSE WITH PRAYER-STANDING ORDER.-Mr. Barton (for Mr. Speaker, Chairman) brought up the First Report from the Standing Orders Committee, recommending a Standing Order on the subject of Opening the Proceedings of the House with Prayer. Ordered to lie on the Table, and to be printed. Mr. Barton moved, by leave, That the Standing Orders be suspended to admit of the consideration
of the Report forthwith. Question-put and resolved in the affirmative. Mr. Barton then moved, That the following Standing Order, as recommended by the Standing Orders Committee, be adopted by this House, viz:-
29A. Upon the Speaker taking the Chair each day he shall read the following prayer:-Almighty God, we humbly beseech Thee at this time to vouchsafe Thy special blessing upon this Parliament, and that Thou wouldst be pleased to direct and prosper all our consultations to the advancement of Thy glory, and to the true welfare of the people of
Australia. Our Father, which art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And
forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation ; but deliver us from evil: For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. Question-put and resolved in the affirmative,

6. MESSAGES FROM THE SENATE.-Mr. Speaker announced the receipt of the following Messages from the Senate: Mr. SPEAKER, Message No. 1.
The Senate has appointed a Library Committee, consisting of the President, Senators Drake, Sir F. T. Sargood, Sir J. H. Symon, Keating, De Largie, and O'Connor, with power to act during the recess, and to sit with any similar Committee of the House of Representatives. R. C. BAKER,

7. AUDIT BILL.-The Order of the Day for the consideration in Committee of the whole House of His Excellency the Governor-General's Message No. 6 having been read-Mr. Speaker left the Chair, and the House resolved itself into a Committee of the Whole. Mr. Speaker resumed the Chair; Mr. Chanter reported that.the Committee had come to a certain
resolution, which was read, and is as follows :-Resolved-That it is expedient that an appropriation be made from the Consolidated Revenue Fund for the purposes of a Bill for the Collection and Payment of the Public Moneys the Audit of the Public Accounts, and the Protection and Recovery of the Public Property, and for other purposes. And the said resolution was adopted by the House.
8. ACTS INTERPRETATION BILL.-The following Order of the Day was read and discharged:-Acts Interpretation Bill-Consideration of Committee's Report. Mr. Deakin moved, That this Bill be now recommitted to a Committee of the whole House. Question-put and resolved in the affirmative. Mr. Speaker left the Chair, and the House resolved itself into a Committee of the Whole. Mr. Speaker resumed the Chair; Mr. Chanter reported that the Committee had reconsidered the
Bill and agreed to the same with further amendments. On the motion of Mr. Deakin the House ordered that the Standing Orders be suspended so as to allow the Bill to be passed through its remaining stages this day. On the motion of Mr. Deakin the House adopted the Report.
Bill read a third time.
9. PUBLIC SERVICE BILL.-The Order of the Day for the second reading of this Bill having been read-Sir William Lyne moved, That this Bill be now read a second time. Debate ensued. Mr. F. E. McLean moved, That the debate be now adjourned.
Question-That the debate be now adjourned-put and resolved in the affirmative. Ordered-That the debate be adjourned until Wednesday next. 10. SPECIAL ADJOURNMENT.-Mr. Barton moved, by leave, That the House, at its rising to-morrow, adjourn until Wednesday next.
Question-put and resolved in the affirmative. 11. MEMBERS PRESENT.-All Members present except-Messrs. Chapman, Hughes, Reid, Sydney Smith, E. Solomon, and Watkins.
12. ADJOURNMENT.-Mr. Barton moved, That the House do now adjourn. Question-put and resolved in the affirmative. And then the House, at twenty minutes past ten o'clock p.m., adjourned until to-morrow at two o'clock p.m.
