2685  Senator Ludlam: To ask the Minister representing the Minister for Tertiary Education, Skills, Science and Research—Can the Minister confirm:

(a) the status of the Synchrotron Enterprise Agreement;

(b) the number and names of the parties to that agreement;

(c) whether the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation’s (ANSTO) human resources and occupational health and safety standards, procedures and culture, previously found to require reform and improvement, will be applied to this facility;

(d) when ANSTO applied to the Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency for approval to manage the Australian Synchrotron, as granted on 20 December 2012; and

(e) how many wholly-owned ANSTO subsidiaries currently exist.

2686  Senator Ludlam: To ask the Minister for Foreign Affairs—

(1) To what extent is Australian-supported special skills training in Rwanda connected to Rwandan mining operations in or pertaining to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

(2) Has the Government made any attempt to make economic co-operation with Rwanda conditional upon an end to Rwandan interference in DRC.

(3) To what extent have Australian mining companies that are operating in Rwanda or DRC adhered to the due diligence guidelines for the responsible supply chain of minerals, to mitigate the risk of providing direct or indirect support for conflict in the eastern part of the DRC, established by the Australian Government in 2010.

(4) To what extent have Australian mining companies adopted the measures recommended by the guidelines.

(5) How does the Government monitor the conduct of these companies.

(6) Is the Government’s engagement with Rwanda compliant with the principles and criteria of the Extractive I ndustries Transparency Initiative and how is this monitored.

(7) To what extent is the conduct of Australian mining companies in DRC and Rwanda compliant with the principles and criteria of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative and how is this monitored.

2687  Senator Birmingham: To ask the Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy—Can details be provided of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s reasons for engaging: (a) Ikon Communications for outdoor and print promotions; and (b) Boston Consulting Group for services in relation to the management of two projects, including details on the process surrounding each engagement and on work done.
