Senator Allison: To ask the Ministers listed below (Question Nos 2498-2499)—

(1) Has the ‘Violence Against Women, Australia Says No’ campaign been evaluated; if so: (a) by whom; (b) when; (c) what was the cost of the evaluation; and (d) what methods were used to conduct the evaluation.

(2) Can a copy of the evaluation results be provided; if not: (a) why not; and (b) can a summary of the findings be provided.

2500  Senator Allison: To ask the Minister representing the Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for Women’s Issues—

(1) Is the Minister aware of reports that a high-level United Nations (UN) panel will recommend that a proposal by the UN Special Envoy for HIV/AIDS in Africa, Mr Stephen Lewis, to create a new UN agency for women be supported; if so, does the Government support the establishment of such an agency; if not, why not.

(2) Has the Government received representation on this matter; if so, from whom.

(3) What representation has the Government made to the UN with regard to the establishment of such an agency.

 

 2501  Senator Allison: To ask the Minister representing the Minister for Education, Science and Training—

(1) What is the Government’s response to the recent Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) report that Australia spends less on preschool education than the rest of the industrialised world and that its kindergarten and preschool teachers are among the least-trained and worst-paid.

(2) Does the Government plan to work with state governments to ensure national standards for preschool education; if not, why not.

(3) What is the level of Commonwealth funding for preschool education, and will this funding be increased in response to the OECD report.

2502  Senator Nettle: To ask the Minister for Immigration and Multicultural Affairs—Can information be provided on the Long Term Immigration Detention Strategy ‘contingency facility’ located on the Cocos Islands, including but not limited to: (a) location; (b) capacity; (c) security; (d) capital cost; (e) ongoing cost; (f) medical facilities; (g) staff numbers; (h) current status; and (i) planned use.

2503  Senator Nettle: To ask the Minister for Immigration and Multicultural Affairs—With reference to funding priorities for the 2006 Living in Harmony Funded Community Projects:

(1) What are the Australian values that funded community projects will promote.

(2) How were these values identified.

(3) (a) What criteria are being used to evaluate grant applications in regard to the promotion of Australian values; and (b) how were they developed.

2504  Senator Nettle: To ask the Minister representing the Minister for Defence—

(1) What training exercises have been conducted between Australia and Israel in the past 2 years.

(2) Has any defence-related equipment exported to Israel from Australia been used by the Israeli Defence Forces in the recent conflict in Lebanon.

(3) For the years 2005 and 2006 to date, can a detailed list be provided of all defence-related goods (both military and duel use) supplied to Israel by the Government or Australian companies, including: (a) the exact nature of the goods; (b) the name of the manufacturer; and (c) the value of the goods.
