440  Senator Bartlett: To move—That the Senate—

(a) supports the call by the Prime Minister (Mr Howard) for a national debate on population policy;

(b) recognises the importance and contribution of migrants to the ongoing development of Australian society and the need for a non-discriminatory immigration program; and

(c) supports:

(i) the development of further measures to encourage migration flows to regional areas of Australia,

(ii) Australia having a strong refugee and humanitarian program, and

(iii) maintaining the current intake under the refugee and humanitarian program as a proportion of total permanent annual migration into Australia.
