17    Questions on Notice—Answers and Explanation s

Senator Ludlam, pursuant to standing order 74, asked the Attorney-General (Senator Brandis) for an explanation of answers not being provided to questions on notice nos 2626, 2794 and 2795 (notice given 20 November and 10 December 2015) relating to assistance provided by the Government to police in Sri Lanka and Indonesia.

Senator Brandis indicated that an explanation would be provided.

Senator Ludlam moved—That the Senate take note of the minister’s failure to provide either answers or an explanation.

Debate ensued.

Question put and passed.

Senator Cameron asked the Minister representing the Minister for Human Services (Senator Payne) for an explanation of an answer being provided today, but not within 30 days, to question on notice no. 2610 (notice given 12 November 2015) relating to unauthorised access to confidential Medicare information.

Ruling of Deputy President : The Deputy President (Senator Marshall) ruled that once a question is answered the procedure outlined in standing order 74 no longer operates in relation to that question.

Senator O’Neill asked the Minister for Education and Training (Senator Birmingham) for an explanation of an answer not being provided to question on notice no. 2646 (notice given 30 November 2015) relating to trade training centres.

Senator Birmingham indicated that an answer had been provided today.
