3       Attendance of the Governor-General—Opening of the Second Session of the 44th Parliament—Governor-General’s Opening Speech

The Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove, AK, MC (Retd), was announced by the Usher of the Black Rod, entered the chamber, took the chair and directed the Usher of the Black Rod to let the members of the House of Representatives know that he desired their attendance in the Senate chamber.

The members of the House of Representatives attended, with their Speaker.

His Excellency addressed both Houses.

His Excellency then retired and the members of the House of Representatives also retired.

 

 

 

Suspension of sitting : At 9.45 am the sitting of the Senate was suspended till the ringing of the bells.

 

 

 

The sitting of the Senate resumed.
