Messages from the House of Representatives were reported transmitting for the concurrence of the Senate the following bills:

Message no. 256, dated 17 October 2017—A Bill for an Act to amend the Customs Act 1901 , and for related purposes.

Message no. 257, dated 17 October 2017—A Bill for an Act to amend the Customs Tariff Act 1995 , and for related purposes.

The Minister for Regional Development (Senator Nash) moved—That these bills may proceed without formalities, may be taken together and be now read a first time.

Question put and passed.

Bills read a first time.

Senator Nash moved—That these bills be now read a second time.

On the motion of Senator Nash the debate was adjourned and the resumption of the debate made an order of the day for a later hour.
