32    Discussion of matter of public importance —Family and Community Services —Housing—Purchase of new dwellings by foreign non-residents

The President informed the Senate that, at 8.30 am today, nine senators had each submitted a letter in accordance with standing order 75. The proposal to be submitted to the Senate was determined by lot.

As a result, the President informed the Senate that the Leader of Pauline Hanson’s One Nation (Senator Hanson) had proposed that the following matter of public importance be submitted to the Senate for discussion:

The need to limit the number of new dwellings that can be purchased by foreign non-residents.

The proposal was supported by four senators and the matter was discussed.
