DISCUSSION OF MATTER OF PUBLIC IMPORTANCE—LAW AND JUSTICE—ATTORNEY-GENERAL

The Deputy President (Senator Parry) informed the Senate that Senator Brandis had proposed that the following matter of public importance be submitted to the Senate for discussion:

The failure of the Attorney-General, the Honourable Nicola Roxon, MP, to uphold the standards expected of the First Law Officer of the Commonwealth, by her undermining of public confidence in the courts and inappropriate interference in litigation.

The proposal was supported by four senators and the matter was discussed.
