DISCUSSION OF MATTER OF PUBLIC IMPORTANCE—LAW AND JUSTICE—RIGHT TO PRIVACY—FREEDOM OF INDIVIDUAL

The Deputy President (Senator Parry) informed the Senate that Senator Siewert had proposed that the following matter of public importance be submitted to the Senate for discussion:

 The threat posed by existing and proposed government incursions into Australians' right to privacy and the freedom of the individual.

The proposal was supported by four senators and the matter was discussed.
