IMMIGRATION—ASYLUM SEEKERS

The Leader of the Opposition in the Senate (Senator Abetz), pursuant to notice of motion not objected to as a formal motion, moved general business notice of motion no. 444—That the Senate rejects the Government's attempts to provide inadequate protections for asylum seekers in its proposed legislation to resurrect its Malaysian asylum seeker deal.

Leave refused: Senator Hanson-Young sought leave to move an amendment to the motion.

An objection was raised and leave was not granted.

Statements by leave: The Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (Senator Ludwig) and Senator Hanson-Young, by leave, made statements relating to the motion.
